As a financial planner, are you doing everything you can to separate yourself from the pack? Let’s be honest, you’re not Marty Byrde and acquiring clients isn’t as simple as knocking down doors and demanding people sign up with you.
Maybe you just finished school and you are hungry to conquer the financial landscape, or maybe you are a seasoned veteran with the likes of celebrity clients; either way, if you don’t follow a coherent marketing strategy, you will likely end up on the chopping block, finding it hard to separate yourself from the thousands of other CPAs across the country.
I’ll come clean, we didn’t write this article to turn you into a marketing guru in less than 2000 words and a couple pages; although, we hope that’s where you are headed… We wrote this article with the intention of providing you with a few more tools that you can add to your marketing arsenal. With that being said, this article will examine three tips that will aid financial advisors in their marketing pursuits.
The first one may seem simple but, unfortunately, too many people come to an aggressive halt if they neglect this step. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pick a niche and create comprehensive buyer personas.
We have FA’s coming to us all the time saying: “My Facebook ad creatives are top notch, but I can’t seem to generate the results I’m looking for.” Our response usually entails us asking to see their marketing plan. To little surprise, they either don’t have one or have essential pieces missing like a niche and/or extensive buyer profiles.
Your lack of success running ads could simply come down to a targeting issue. We get it, creating these profiles can seem arbitrary and trivial, but they absolutely should not. You need to be asking yourself questions like—where do my ideal customers spend their free time; what magazines do they read; what credible social media pages are they interacting with? Answering these questions with a pen and paper should be the first thing you do before spending a dollar on ads.
Think of it this way: you’re a detective trying to track down a certain group of people. Where do you start? Thinking of different leads will enable you to find your target audience and effectively engage them. If you want to take a look at an example of a buyer persona we created, click here.
While this is getting slightly more advanced than the last tip, we think this is something every financial advisor should absolutely take the time to investigate. We could write an entirely separate blog post explaining everything there is to know about CF’s, but for the sake of time, we are going to give you a high-level overview and hopefully motivate you to take it upon yourself to further develop your knowledge on the subject.
Click Funnels is an online-based software that is essentially a tool you can use to build out your entire sales funnel in a matter of hours, without knowing an ounce of code. By the way, we did warn you, this tip is a little more advanced, so we are assuming you know what a sales funnel and landing pages are; if you don’t, and are already running ads, we would advise you to stop wasting your money and learn what landing pages are and how to properly use as well as create them.
Anyways, click funnels allows you manage/build your entire funnel from one, easy to use, dashboard/software. Say goodbye to long weeks of building landing pages and kickstart your sales process with the click of a button: Click Funnels.
This is the holy grail of marketing. The meat & potatoes, so to speak. Every entrepreneur dreams of doing it but few actually pull it off. Being able to create a system that allows you to actively pull your ideal buyers into your sales funnel, day in and day out, with little time spent, is as elusive as chasing bigfoot; however, unlike bigfoot, it’s something that is actually possible.
This truly is the number one question we get asked by financial advisors: “How do I have my marketing system work for me instead of the other way around?”
We have found that the financial advisors that do see marketing success either spend copious amounts of time, weekly, managing their strategy, or they hire an agency that makes them dependent and none-the-wiser.
At Transcend, we work to educate and aid you in implementing systems, processes, and workflows that will give you a sustainable plan long after we are gone. While it doesn’t happen overnight, our goal really is to send you off your own while we watch you fade over the horizon.
